Situated Design Practices

During this week we had the opportunity to spend time with people and contexts that are completely different from those I am used to. My favorite day was the one we spent at Cal Negre.

It brought me back in time to when I used to go on school trips in high school: a day guided by a sense of lightness, being together as a group and wanting to have fun, but at the same time enriched by the knowledge of the people who live there.

The workshop we took part in left a mark on me. It consisted of building a ceramic ocarina. Since my entire project is based on music, it was important for me to do it well, also because I understand how wind instruments work and I was convinced I would succeed in this practice.

After shaping the base, however, I had trouble making the holes correctly, which resulted in the instrument not working. I tried again and again, but in the end time ran out and I had to give up.

I often realize that I know little, far too little, about many things, and despite that I tend to overestimate myself. I should push myself to go deeper into things and not stop at a superficial understanding: I need to really get my hands into the work and keep at it until I reach the goal.

In conclusion the day was enjoyable. I came back home more aware, I ate a good paella, and I lost a lighter. It was worth it
